Our UltraSky Ignite electronic ignition system has been developed for use on high-performance Lycoming aircraft engines.
The system incorporates unique features that increase the efficiency, performance, and safety of the engine in an easy-to-install package.
No compromises. Our system uses a 3D map that is fully calibrated according to your engine configuration which provides the optimal settings during all engine operations and situations. This means that there is no trade-off between maximum high-power operation, efficient cruise, and smooth idle. The additional inputs of CHT and IAT allow us to trim the timing to a safe setting when extreme or unexpected conditions exist.
Stable ignition timing. Unlike magnetos that suffer from timing scatter in operation due to both internal and external drive clearances, the electronic systems maintain accurate and consistent timing throughout all RPM, temperature, and load points. Additionally, operational timing can be easily verified, unlike static timing setting with a traditional magneto.
Strong ignition output. With a powerful coil output and spark duration, leaner fuel mixture settings can be comfortably maintained when in reduced-power (cruise) flight and during ground operation. The increased output also minimizes the chance of a misfire during high-power operation. Stronger output during cranking at the proper timing value leads to easier starting when the engine sees an overly rich or too lean mixture.
Enhanced engine safety. The system actively monitors supplied voltage and will automatically compensate for under/over-voltage situations, as well as when abnormally high or low engine temperatures are encountered. The system also includes a soft-rev limit feature that will reduce engine power in an emergency over-rev situation such as a propeller or governor failure.
Durable control unit, peripherals, and wiring. The control unit is designed to withstand substantial shock loads and is highly water resistant. The wiring harnesses are manufactured using proven techniques that greatly increase the durability of the assembly. We use sealed, positive-lock connectors and strain-relieved, flame-resistant wiring to build the custom harnesses based on your aircraft's measurements and engine layout.
Controllable output functions. Because we are already taking in and processing engine sensor data, it made sense to build-in the functionality to supply general purpose output signals based on the data. The outputs can be based on battery voltage, manifold pressure, oil temperature, cylinder head temperature, RPM, lambda, intake air temperature, detonation, or a combination of them to control things like cooling flow paths, ADI systems, or even safe nitrous injection.
- Fully tested. This system is the result of years of design revision. We have spent significant time testing in the virtual environment, in our engine test cells, and in flight tests. For those who are assembling digital twins of portions or their entire aircraft, the system is fully modeled in CAD for easy fitment onto your assembly.
- Highest quality engine sensors. We use proven aviation engine sensors in our system to provide high accuracy and consistent data, even in tough conditions. We have worked directly with UMA Instruments for years to supply the best sensors for our specific needs. These components have been designed for and tested in worst case scenarios so that we can be sure that they will operate within tight tolerance limits, even when subjected to the large temperature swings and vibrations that are unavoidable in these installations.
- Custom built for your aircraft. We manufacture each system for your particular aircraft. Based on our extensive dyno and flight data, we fully map the system to give your specific engine combination the best possible calibration while maintaining a known safety margin. But just as importantly, we build the firewall-forward electrical harnesses specifically for your installation. The result is a clean, straightforward, and highly durable installation that allows your engine to deliver the greatest power and efficiency.
