 Lambda - Air/Fuel Ratio Monitor

This wideband oxygen sensor system allows direct, instantaneous measurement of the engine's air/fuel ratio. AFR measurement should be used in conjunction with EGTs to provide a complete picture of the engine's fueling condition. While EGT monitoring is helpful for measuring relative cylinder balance, because other things like CHT, compression/leakdown, and ignition timing can vary exhaust temperatures, they are ultimately an indirect measurement of in-cylinder mixture. Additionally, EGT's are best viewed as a trend as they are slow to respond to changes in mixture. 

Wiring for this kit is quick and straight-forward, just give it switched +12v (or +24v) and a quality ground source. The controller can be panel-mounted with our included bracket and has an LCD display for real time AFR readings. Optionally, you can wire the controller's signal output to an available channel on your engine monitor for data recording and display, and then mount the controller elsewhere behind the panel. We supply a stainless steel fitting that is welded into your exhaust's collector section - or you can send the collector to us and we will weld in the fitting. Most importantly, we have spent the time to find the most lead-tolerant lambda sensor which we include with the kit.

It is important to note that 100LL fuel reduces sensor life. Overall longevity depends on the type of flying that you do. If you are mainly in cross country flight where you are leaning at altitude, then the sensor should last a long time. The majority of sensor life is consumed by low power/full rich conditions such as landing and taxi. Simply leaning to a proper mixture while taxiing can significantly increase sensor life, and this is also a good practice to keep spark plugs clean.

 We can supply various types of sensor mounting fittings depending on your application. If you are using a smoke system in your exhaust, we also include specially-made smoke oil injection fittings that will significantly reduce buildup on the sensor from the smoke oil.




Crankcase Evacuation Pressure

 This kit measures the vacuum created by our collector-based evacuation system. Monitoring your crankcase vacuum can provide information on many things. Because the crankcase evacuation system integrated into our exhaust systems relies on the mass flow through the engine, we have seen that evacuation pressure is directly tied to volumetric efficiency. So watching the negative pressure reading (and taking into account RPM) can indicate when you are at peak VE. We have mapped a relationship between this signal and engine HP (constant mixture).

This reading also indicates engine health - it is advisable to note the readings in your engine log and watch for long term trends that reveal signs of cylinder decay. We have found that the best reason for watching crankcase pressure is to gauge ring seal on a new engine. Also, if your data acquisition system is capable, the crankcase pressure measurement can detect instances of ring flutter or even detonation events.
